Carlton Fillauer Award

The O&P Foundation's Carlton Fillauer Award for Outstanding Contribution to Prosthetics Science and Practice, sponsored by the Fillauer Companies Inc., recognizes prosthetists who have actively engaged in clinical care, research, and publication. The Carlton Fillauer Award will include a $5,000 unrestricted cash award in recognition of the recipient's history of clinical care, scientific research, and peer-reviewed publication in the prosthetics profession. 

The Carlton Fillauer Award is presented at the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists Annual Meeting and Scientific Symposium. 

Eligibility Criteria

Every two years, the O&P Foundation solicits nominations for individuals who have made a significant contribution to the prosthetics profession. The O&P Foundation Board of Directors may also nominate deserving individuals. Ideal nominees or applicants are those who have a history of at least ten years in clinical care, as a practical foundation for their scientific research.

To qualify for award consideration, applicants/nominees must:

• Be eligible to provide clinical care as a prosthetist within the United States (ABC or BOC certification is required)

• Have a minimum of ten years clinical experience as a prosthetist

• Demonstrate a commitment to advancing the profession through membership in professional associations

• Have been actively involved in research directed at improving prosthetics science and clinical care over a period of five or more years

• Be an author or co-author in at least one article in a peer-reviewed journal, such as the Journal of Prosthetics and Orthotics (JPO)

• Not be employed by or associated with a manufacturer or distributor of prosthetic devices

How to Apply

1. Create an account in The O&P Foundation Application Portal and select the Carlton Fillauer Award Program, follow the prompts in the portal.

2. Prepare/obtain the nominee's Curriculum Vitae (CV) or resume

   • Ensure the CV or resume describes the applicant's/nominee's history of clinical care, scientific research, and/or peer-reviewed publication

3. Obtain copies of relevant publications

   • Preference will given to peer-reviewed publications

4. Obtain between three (minimum) and five (maximum) letters of recommendation

   • Letters of recommendation are optional for the Carlton Fillauer Award

Submission 

Applicants are responsible for ensuring all materials are received by The O&P Foundation by the due dates posted. Application materials must be received by 5:00pm Central Time on the posted deadline.
